Christmas at Trebah a success once again

This Christmas at Trebah Gardens was a great success with everyone enjoying the Christmas season with family and friends of all different ages visiting Father Christmas in his magic woodland Santa's Grotto.

Over 2,000 people have visited Trebah Gardens during special Santa Days. This 15 year old tradition is a real favourite with locals and visitors alike. The Grotto is formed out of sprigs of Laurel which is then lit up with hundreds of twinkling fairy lights.

The garden will continue to open over the Christmas season and don't forget that RHS and National Trust members gain free entry.

 

Study shows Tall Ships at Falmouth this year generated £6 million

The local council which ordered a research programme at the regatta to find out what the economic effect of the event on Falmouth and the local areas would be.

The study involved interviews with visitors to Tall Ships between September 10th and September 13th and also with local businesses in Falmouth and across the whole of Cornwall to determine the reach of the effect.

Interviewers asked about the number of visitors to the area, the amount of money people had spent, profiles of what type of visitors came, customer / visitor satisfaction and to determine the impact of the Tall Ships on the turnover of retail and of other commercial businesses in the Falmouth area.

The study identified a series of key findings which included over 66,000 visitors came visited the event, £12 million was generated for the local Falmouth economy, about £6 million was seen as additional spendings.

High levels of visitor satisfaction were seen, half of all of the visitors would not have come to Falmouth otherwise that week, 1 in 10 businesses had a 50% rise and almost 1/5 saw a 20% rise in their regular takings and over half felt the event had a positive effect.

 

Mylor and Flushing gig boat teams entertain on stage

On Saturday night Tremayne Hall in Mylor hosted a wonderful Christmas Party for the Mylor and Flushing Gig Rowing Clubs.

It was a DIY party but the results were very entertaining. Dinner was served in the heavily decorated hall with every table planning and creating their own menu. This was then followed by an array of acts from in the club, from very funny comedy sketches to spectacular music and singing.

Tables were cleared away and the club band named The Square Blades took to the stage and everyone was dancing. It was a night for all to remember.

 

Local MPs champion maritime offices in Cornwall
December 16th, 2008

In a meeting this morning Government Ministers were encouraged to choose a site in Cornwall as the base for a new organisation which will be responsible for protecting the seas.

Between 300 and 400 jobs would be created in Cornwall if the new organisation is based here. After the consideration of all councils in England Carrick Council has been included in the shortlist of potential places for the new Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

Whilst Carrickl faces tough competition from its Westcountry competitors in Plymouth, and 6 other places all across the country local MP's Julia Goldsworthy and Matthew Taylor met with the Ministers to rally for the Cornish site.
A decision on the final location will be announced in the coming week.

 

Funeral Directors in Falmouth display Memorial Tree

A Falmouth funeral director is planning to help families pay tributes to their loved ones this Christmas by planting a memorial tree.

Family members and friends can pay a visit to WJ Angove and Son on Webber Street in order to to write a special message or the name of their loved one on a tag that will be hung on the Memorial Christmas Tree.

David Richards, the Funeral director, said: “Christmas is a very difficult time for people who have lost someone special and close to them. This Memorial Christmas Tree is one little way that we can help Falmouth families to remember their loved ones.”
